Practical advice for Uppsala

For students: register with Studentstaden the same day as your admission acceptance. Studentstaden is free for ages 16-17 and 200 SEK/year for 18+. Most accepted students get corridor rooms by semester start. For non-students: register with Uppsalahem AND consider Knivsta (commuter town between Uppsala and Stockholm — 15 min to Uppsala, 30 min to Stockholm).

FAQ

Will I get a place at Studentstaden by semester start?

Most students who register the same day as their admission acceptance get a corridor room or small student studio by semester start. Larger student apartments take 1-3 years.

Should I commute from Stockholm or Uppsala?

Both directions are common. Stockholm-Uppsala train takes 35 minutes. Many PhD students live in Stockholm with much shorter queue times for finding any apartment, and commute to Uppsala. Reverse is also common for those working in Uppsala but wanting Stockholm city life.
